Busting the Myths:

Excuses for Not Participating in Dinner Groups

I’m a terrible cook!

Dinner Groups are more about fellowship than about gourmet cooking.  Hosting doesn’t mean you have to

prepare a gourmet meal from soup to nuts!  Here are some options:

·      Buy a frozen lasagna or other dinner entree and just heat it up - if you put it into your own casserole dish nobody will even know the difference

·      Buy a couple of hot rotisserie chickens and serve them with Stovetop stuffing

·      Have pizza delivered from Papa Johns (or your favorite pizza parlor) and have a pizza party

·      Throw some hot dogs and burgers on the grill and have a cookout

·      Get takeout from your favorite local restaurant

I’m allergic to cats!

When people sign up for Dinner Groups, they are asked to provide a list of what animals live at their house, and what allergies they have.  Guests with allergies are paired with hosts with animal free or cat free homes.

I don’t have formal china or crystal!

Neither do a lot of the other Dinner Group participants!  Everyday plates and glasses are just fine!

I don’t have a formal dining room!

Over the years, dinners have been eaten in many places You can use:

·      A kitchen table

·      A picnic table on your deck or in your backyard

·      Card tables (or TV trays) in your living room

I really don’t like socializing with people from UUCG

OK, in that case you probably should NOT join Dinner Groups!
